1. Open the Terminal

2. Paste a line that matches the version of After Effects that is installed on your system:

For After Effects CC.2021 and above:
defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.11 PlayerDebugMode 1

For After Effects CC.2020:
defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.10 PlayerDebugMode 1

For After Effects CC.2019:
defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.9 PlayerDebugMode 1

For After Effects CC.2018:
defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.8 PlayerDebugMode 1

For After Effects CC.2017:
defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.7 PlayerDebugMode 1

For older versions:
defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.6 PlayerDebugMode 1
or
defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.5 PlayerDebugMode 1

3. Press Enter

4. Restart After Effects

Solution for Windows:

 

1. Download this archive and open it.

2. Run the reg file corresponding to the version of After Effects that is installed on your system.
